WHAT IS HOOKED UP COUNTRY?

Hooked Up Country is a project of the Independent Country Music Association (ICoMA) from the US and Country Grits with Aussie Seano from Australia. One night ICoMA Founder Al Shephard was chatting about the Country music industry with Australian DJ "Aussie Seano", about how hard it is for indie artists to be heard, and how the great Australian artists music never gets played in the US. It was decided at that time that some cross-promotion would take place in the interest of generating more exposure for artists of both continents. As the evening went on, it was agreed that Country artists of all continents needed more exposure, and HookedUp Country was born.

After watching a music video featuring Australian Lee Kernaghan and American Dierks Bentley, Al decided that what was needed was a "Big Brother/Big Sister" or "Crossroads" type of relationship, where an artist from one country is paired up with an artist from another country. It is hoped such pairings would lead to each artist promoting the other on their social network pages, co-writing songs via Skype, inviting their "buddy" to perform with them in their country, and giving them a couch to sleep on if needed. This type of relationship would be highly advantageous to both artists, and of great benefit to Country fans as they are exposed to great music from other countries.
